Day one of a six day trip, man it still amazes how fast my three days go by and just how slow my four or in this case my six day trip will go. I had the pleasure of dropping my son off at school this morning on my way to the airport. I love every minute I get with my son, he is growing up so fast and I miss out on so much being gone every week. That is one of the many reasons why I try to talk to as many people as I can about having additional income streams or multiple businesses’. It is always nice to have choices in life. If you are happy in your job today, you may not be tomorrow. Start building your business today and work it little by little, then when you find yourself in a place that you want to make a change or walk away from you current job, the transition will be much easier.
It just makes sense, nobody that I know would invest all of their money into one stock or anything one thing for that matter, so why do so many people invest their future, their security and financial well being on one job? I truly believe that more people are starting to wake up and see that there is no security any more and the best thing that you can invest in is yourself. Start that business, learn a new skill that will enable you to generate some additional income and provide that security that you and your family deserve, do not rely on your job or your government to do it for you. You could be in for a rude awakening when it comes time to retire and you find that you cannot afford to. I just read a very sad statistic, over 80% of people that graduate from high school and college never read another book again. Don’t fall into that percentage, take action today, do not be lazy or ever become complacent, always be trying to improve yourself.

Day One
Saturday, February 27th, 2010Last day off
Wednesday, February 24th, 2010Just taking care of some last minute items then it is upstairs to pack for a six day trip this week. As an airline pilot your schedule changes every month if you are a line holder. The more junior pilots get stuck on reserve and their schedule changes daily. If your days off remain the same then the transition from one month to the next is not too bad. Not the case for me typically. I finish my normal four day trip and then have to do the first two days of my four day trip for March. It is a litte crazy, but a necessary evil for now. I have a couple of side businesses that are generating a nice income and soon enough I will be able to say goodbye to this crazy business. Twenty one years with the airline that I currently work with is long enough! Looking foward to being home every night with my family.
Interesting commute
Tuesday, February 23rd, 2010It was an early flight from Charlotte to Chicago and I was sitting next to a gentleman reading some literature on a real estate investment seminar coming up in the Atlanta area that I was planning to attend. Typically, I like to keep to myself during my commute back and fourth to work but I have a strong interest in real estate, since it is one of the ways that I earn additional income. The gentleman finally ask if I was a pilot and if I was going home or to work, which is a common question that all commuters get. We started talking about the flying business as well as the real estate business and once I informed him of what the average airline pilot is making today and how our benefits and pensions are slowly going away, we talked mostly about real estate. This investor I was speaking with generated more in one month with is real estate investments than I made in an entire year. Pretty impressive, but yet very possible. Now more than ever we need to be diversified and have additional income coming from mutiple sources to provide stability and security for ourselves and our families.
