I am sure that you have heard of the 40/40/40 plan. You work 40 hours a week for 40 years then retire at 40 percent of your pay. That is the plan most people are working on today and it sucks. My point is, life is truly short and since we only get one shot at it we need to make it count. I have high expectations for myself and my son. I work hard everyday to provide a good quality life for me and my family. Working a good job can provide you with a good quality life, but often comes with a price, your time. Trading you hours for dollars really gets old after a while and when you find yourself working more hours so you can make more money, that is when your quality of life can take a turn for the worse.

It is nice to have a beautiful home and lots of toys, but if you are never there to enjoy those things, what good are they? That is why so many people have turn to network marketing or direct sales. Real estate was really big until the housing market crashed, then everyone in real estate was scrambling to find another way to earn a residual income. Having your own business is great on so many levels, but you have to be able to work on your business more than in your business.

With technology it is possible to start and grow your network marketing business with very little money, if any at all. The gentleman that introduced me to this business is making over 15,000 a month now and he has done so using Facebook and YouTube. He has built a quality team of individuals that are all working toward a common goal, financial independence. Everyday that I am at home it is easy to be thankful for where I am and what I have in my life. To see my son smile, to hear him tell me that I am the best daddy in the world, for my wife to hug me and tell me that she is proud of me and kiss me just because. The quality time by the pool we spend or hanging out on the boat. Life is good on my days off, but not so much when I have to head off to work to fly a four day trip.

This week was a little different, for the first time in a long time the weather was good, we were on time every leg and I am flying with a great crew, so the complaining was minimal. Like I have mentioned before I do love to fly, I saw some beautiful sunsets over Lake Michigan this trip as well as a beautiful sunrise this morning while we were leveling at 37,000 feet from Fargo, N.D. To Chicago. I wish every week was this enjoyable!

Life can’t always be good , but we should try to stack the deck in our favor when possible. Work on things at home to make them better, go for the job or the business that you really want. I fly with quite a few pilots that this is their second career. My First Officer last month use to be a C.P.A. And at 40 years old just could not see doing that for the rest of his life. He always wanted to fly, so he started taking lessons and a few short years later had his first airline job.

You only get one shot, never let anyone discourage you from taking a chance or changing direction in your life, enjoy your life and live it the way that makes you happy. Enjoy the little things in life and don’t sweat the small stuff, life is too short!

I had a conversation with my mother this morning and she said that I had done good with my life so far, most would take that as a compliment and I did as well because it was said with good intentions. However, good is not good enough for me. I am very grateful everyday for all that is good in my life, but I work very hard to make it great. Good enough is for lazy people, good enough makes you complacent in your job and in your life.

I feel that everyone should do what makes them happy, if you are happy where you are in life that is great, but I find so few are happy these days. There are many reasons not to be and many places to point the finger and place blame as to why we are not happy. We must first start with ourselves, I say this because I work with so many different people, all with similar complaints. Most everyone wants to make more money and have more time to spend with family or just doing things that they enjoy.

It will always be difficult to achieve those things working a job. A job controls most of your life and when you trade your time for money you will discover that in order to make more money you have to give more of your time, and that just sucks. Not so if you have your own business, the right kind of business I should say. The secret to freedom is having a residual income coming in, you do the work once and receive the benefit from that work over and over again.

Real estate and network marketing are the best two models that I have discovered that provide me with a residual income. Real estate contains a higher risk than network marketing, but I also believe in being diversified as well. I would never put all of my hopes and dreams into any one thing. I just had one of my best friends get hired as a pilot at FedEx, for those not in the airline business, getting a flying job with FedEx is like hitting the lottery. They treat their people well, have the best contract in the business and you can earn a very good salary working for them. Jav has worked very hard to make this a reality in his life and I could not be happier for him! I wish I could have him in my business, he would do very well, but he and I define success differently.

I have never met anyone that loves flying more than Jav and he dedicates a large portion of his time giving back to the industry by visiting local high schools and colleges educating children about aviation and the industry. Jav also works hard to rise money for the USO and for our Veterans, after serving in the Navy he has a strong sense of duty to give back to those who have served our country. He will be missed very much at American Eagle, but I know nothing will make him happier than flying that huge MD11 around the globe. It is a great gig for the small number of pilots that make it through the process and get hired. Congratulations Jav!

Others measure success depending on how well their business is doing. I guess there is no wrong way to measure success in your life. I am big on setting goals and working hard to achieve them. If you go through life without goals, without a purpose, you will feel empty and lost. Set goals for yourself and take the steps necessary to achieve them and do not quit. It is really that simple, I get very frustrated when I fly with people that constantly complain about everything in their life, but yet take no action to change it.

No matter what you do or what your goals are in life, do not let the current state of our country or our economy get you down. My business is doing very well, people are looking to better themselves physical and financially. As more baby boomers retire they are searching for ways to stay young and feel good. Also, after seeing their stock portfolios and real estate investments take a dive they are looking for ways to generate an additional income in their life.

When we were deplaning, one of the passengers ask why they had been in Chicago and they replied they were guest on the Jerry Springer show. That explained a lot! I do not mean to put everyone into that same category, we do have many passengers that fly frequently that behave very well, but we have too many Springer passengers flying the not so friendly skies now a days.

I never thought I would feel so old fashion, but it just makes me a little disgusted when I see how some people choose to behave now a days. It does not matter how successful you are in life, you should still have a sense of pride about you.

Your J.O.B. ( just over broke ) will not save you, your government will not save you, your parents may or may not be in a position to help you. You need to take action for yourself, the wealthy build networks while the poor look for jobs. ( Robert Kiyosaki, author of Rich Dad Poor Dad ) In this day and time it is easier now than ever to be successful in network marketing. I use social media, Google and direct mail champaign’s to grow my business. You will not get rich over night, but if you do not quit you will be successful.

Also, it is important to align yourself with other like minded people. Do not let others discourage you from taking action to have a better quality of life. Always strive to be better, to do better. Another great read is the book “Good to Great,” there is a line in the book that states good is the enemy of great. That it is so true and keeps many people from achieving greatness in their life. Never settle for good enough, my first flight instructor taught me to strive for perfection even though he knew it was not possible. His logic was, as long as you strive for perfection and always try your best, if you fall short it will not be by much.

There are a lot of troubling things taking place in our country today, some think we will recover like we always have, many have a different opinion and for good reason. Be proactive in your life do not wait until you are nearing retirement only to learn you have not saved or invested enough money or your company pension just got cut in half or eliminated completely. The best income is residual income, that is why I love real estate and network marketing. Network marketing gives you the income without the risk. I tend to favor that a little more, but as usual it is always smart to be diversified.

Take action, stay consistent, educate yourself and associate with positive and motivated people.

We work in one of the most unhealthy environments, we are constantly exposed to germs from the recycled air that we breathe on the aircraft to radiation exposure at the higher attitudes. Our diets are horrible, we do not exercise as much as we should and our sleep cycles stay screwed up because of our crazy schedules.

You combine all of these things in addition to stress from the uncertainty that we face everyday with the companies that we work for, add a little stress on the home front from our spouses and kids and it is no wonder that most pilots do not live very long past their retirement date. That last study that I read years ago, the life expectancy of an airline pilot was 62 years old. I think that we are doing a little better today, but not by much.

Because of the landscape of our diets, generation Y may become the first generation not expected to live longer than their parents. With science and technology being what it is, how sad is it that we live in such an obese and unhealthy society? We have become so lazy in our lives that it just does not seem to matter to most people that they are unhealthy and are cutting their lives short by years. Then some want to smoke and drink in excess shaving even more time off.

It does not take much to turn things around and brake the cycle of bad habits. You have to have a desire to do so and then educate yourself a little bit on what you should and should not be consuming. Let’s face it as we grow older our metabolism slows down, we cannot continue to eat the way that we did in our twenties.

Also, the food that we are consuming today is not as healthy for us as it once was. To give your body what it needs to stay healthy today, you need to supplement. Life is much more enjoyable when you are healthy! I have many friends that are over weight and they are always complaining about how tired they are and they never have the energy to keep up with their children. I believe that we must supplement our diet in order to give our bodies everything that it needs.

The body is very amazing, when it has what it needs it works well, when it does not get what it needs it begins to break down. When you have a poor diet and do not exercise you feel tired, get sick more often and most do not sleep well. Four people die every 18 minutes in this country due to their diet, that should

The story is about a student and his guru, he ask his guru if he would show him exactly what he did to be so successful and show him how to make money. The guru agreed and ask the student to meet him at the beach at 0400am in the morning. Now the student did not understand why, but showed up at 0400am on the beach anyway. The guru ask him to step out into the water, once again the student was wondering what this had to do with learning how to make money.

The guru ask the student to take a few more steps into the water up to the students neck, the student still confused. The guru then held the students head under the water for a short period of time, just long enough to make his point. When the student lifted his head out of the water and gasp for his first breath the guru ask him when he was under water what was the thing he wanted more than anything. The student responded by saying air, of course.

The guru said, when you want success in your life as bad as you wanted that breath of air, you will have it. Everyone says that they want success in their life, but they just do not want it bad enough to make any sacrifices to make it happen. How bad do you want it? Today my airline was willing to leave 13 people standing at the gate just so they could get an on time departure. I found that to be unacceptable and took the necessary action to see that they got the opportunity to board the flight.

I am sure that I will catch grief from my chief pilot for the delay, but two families and their children made it home tonight and will be in their own beds instead of some nasty hotel.

I would like to see customer service hold some level of importance at any airline and stop worrying about their DOT performance. We are all the same, it would be nice if someone would stand up above the rest and be different. People might just appreciate it and actually pay a buck or two more for the better service.
